10 Days With Influenza

Temperature 102.5, chilled even though I am wearing fleece and a housecoat. Dry intense, hacking cough. I felt a muscle pull against my left rib. Throat feels like I swallowed a gallon of cut glass. Hips, ankles, arms throb. Pushing the Keurig button to make tea’s an effort: a thermal steel mug, sixteen ounces of hot water, a dripping tablespoon of Sue Bee Honey, a Mighty Leaf green tea bag, a large lemon chunk. Climb the stairs with tea, my electric Sherpa throw, to the upholstered rocking chair and a book – The Life of Pi.
